Golden Sands
The Golden Sands is one of the major tourist resorts along the northern coastline, also known as the Zlatni Piasaci. The area is renowned for its stunning two-mile (four kilometre) beach and the healing properties of its hot bubbling mineral spa. The resort is 11 miles (18km) north of Varna, and sits at the foot of the forested hills of the Zlatni Piasaci National Park, which is one of the oldest in the country and features a variety of interesting flora and fauna. Golden Sands offers the whole family ideal holiday conditions with plenty of entertainment, sporting activities, warm and clean water, year round luxury hotels and villas, restaurants, bars and spa treatments, making it one of the more desirable vacation destinations on the Black Sea Coast.
For shoppers: Make the most of the colourful outdoor bazaars and many covered arcades.
Restaurants: Traditional Bulgarian food at very reasonable prices can be found in the many restaurants, cafes, tavernas and other eateries along with excellent dishes from all around the world. Local wines and brandies are on offer at most restaurants.
Nightlife: If you want to party until the early hours, there are lots of nightclubs, discos and bars to choose from. Or choose from the many casinos and shows in the resort.
Activities: There's no shortage of sports and activities for children and adults. Swimming pools are widely found both indoor and outdoor - often with waterslides. Keep fit in the gym, or enjoy the horse riding, cycling, tennis and volleyball, bowling, mini-golf facilities A wide range of water sports includes yachting, jet skis, waterskiing and a scuba diving centre. For the more adrenaline seeking, hang-gliding and parasailing is offered. A balneology centre provides treatments and medical programmes for those avid for a bit of pampering or seeking healing.
Negatives: Golden Sands is one of the largest tourist complexes on the northern Black Sea Coast and may not be the ideal location if character and a flavour of the real, unspoilt Bulgaria is your priority.
