Small coves, mountain roads and panoramic views from Corsica's northern edge
Stunning views from all points of Cap Corse make this a popular holiday destination in Corsica – don’t forget your camera!
Cap Corse is a 25-mile-long (40km) peninsula at the northern tip of Corsica which was only accessible by sea until Napoleon III built a road around the mountainous promontory in the 19th century. Known as “the island within an island”, the area is dotted with tiny villages, those in the east nestling in coves, while on the west are sleepy seaside havens.
Beach lovers will enjoy relaxing on Plage de Tamarone, the best long stretch of beach in the region near Macinaggio – it’s difficult to get to but well worth the effort. More active holiday-makers will be attracted by the adventure of hiking trails such as in the Sentier des Douaniers. Make sure the camera is loaded for visits to the panoramic viewpoints of Capo Grosso, Moulin Mattei and the Tour de Seneque, above Pino. The most popular village among holiday-makers is Centuri, a picturesque fishing village with a military history indicated by the canons now used as moorings.
St-Florent signposts the start of the wine route, or “route des vins”, which offers ample opportunities to stop and taste local wine. The vineyards of Patrimonio particularly are renowned for Muscat.
Co-op Holidays is the place to go for the cheapest Cap Corse holidays.
