Vienna

A Grandiose City with Elegant Buildings and Cultural Delights

Vienna city breaks offer a vibrant mix of, elegance and value.

Vienna, the capital of Austria, is a grandiose city with elegant buildings, world-class museums, lavish concert halls and ancient squares. Most of Vienna's main sights are crammed into the Innere Stadt. The district is adorned with the outstanding Gothic heights of Stephansdom, the massive Imperial Palace, the cultured history of the Jewish quarter and a scattering of historic streets and squares.Vienna has an array of coffee houses, wine taverns and Beisls (small restaurants) all over the city.

For a less expensive option, the area northwest of the city, near the university, has numerous good value restaurants. A constant programme of classical music dominates the Viennese streets, however, there are also comfortable bars and international DJs are never far from nightclub turntables.

Vienna Christmas markets

During Advent Vienna is a city of nostalgia and romance, concerts and nativity displays and traditional Christmas markets. With several Christmas markets at Schönbrunn Palace, the Christmas market in front of City Hall, the traditional Viennese Christmas market on Freyung, the markets at Spittelberg, Am Hof and in front of the church of St. Charles Borromeo (Karlskirche).

Stalls selling Christmas decorations, arts and crafts dominate. The decorations are not your cheap plastic type, but are often made of blown glass or handcrafted wood. And the arts and crafts stalls show off the handiwork of numerous artisans from Austria and surrounding countries.
