Gorgeous weather and diverse landscapes on a tropical island

From relaxing on the sandy haven of dunes and beaches, trying a new water sport or enjoying the hectic nightlife with the 18–30 crowd, a Gran Canaria holiday has something for everyone.

Gran Canaria is the third largest of the Islands, with a diameter of almost thirty-two miles (50km). The landscape is dominated by steep ravines that stretch from the centre of the island towards it sandy beaches. Small villages are dotted abut the island, typified by their pretty whitewashed buildings adorned with red tiled roofs. The abundance of banana plantations and tropical fruit orchards are testament to this lush island.

Gran Canaria is most famous for its beach resorts of the south, particularly Maspalomas and Playa del Ingles, which share a wonderful five-mile (8km) stretch of golden sandy beach. The northern towns – especially Las Palmas – are also well worth a visit, boasting museums, historic churches and traditional squares.
