Try a long-haul holiday for a taste of something new and exotic
When the time comes to plan your next holiday abroad, why not look at destinations a bit different from ‘old favourites’ like Spain, Greece and Turkey? No longer should long flights and alternative cultures be barriers to travelling further afield – with overnight flights, ready access to inoculations and an abundance of travel guides available, there’s no reason why your annual jaunt shouldn’t turn into the trip of a lifetime.
Long-haul holidays offer richly diverse experiences. Where European resorts are often hectic, a beach holiday in a tropical destination is likely to be relaxing and luxurious – as in the Dominican Republic or Goa, whose white sands and turquoise seas will make you feel you have stepped into paradise. An all-inclusive holiday is great for families as well as young people – in Cancun and Barbados, for instance, water sports and a myriad of other activities are included in the price, and there’s plenty going on after dark, too – often rivalling even Spain’s wild nightlife. With 24-hour entertainment for all the family, and food and drink as well, an all-inclusive package can be great value.
Would you prefer a complete change for your holiday? If you’d rather not hang out in ‘English pubs’ and karaoke bars, try the coastal resorts of Africa or the Pacific islands. In Kenya you can stay in a lodge overlooking the beach and take a safari trip into the nearby big game nature reserves, while Sri Lanka combines beautiful beaches and lush scenery with something a bit extra – elephant sanctuaries and wild tigers!
